Reimagine Crowdus

Prototyping a Pedestrian Plaza

How might we prototype a new plaza?

Too often, cities build first and only after construction do they ask for feedback from the neighborhood. We aimed to build and test a one month prototype in the Deep Ellum music district to test, learn, and iterative towards a more successful new urban space.

Building the Crowdus Pedestrian Plaza

  • Experiences for all generations

Daily activities on Crowdus Street were created in collaboration with partner organizations all over the city, like the Zoo.

  • Designing unique spaces

Spaces were designed and built in collaboration with local architecture and landscape design firms.

  • Prototyping events

Reimagine Crowdus included events like yoga, dancing, improv comedy, concerts, and even dinner parties.

  • Built by the community

A large group of artist, designers, and residents of Deep Ellum helped to construct the one month prototype.

  • Community Input and Feedback

The Dallas community contributed the design and gave regular feedback about what they wanted in Crowdus plaza.

  • Creating joy

Every aspect of Reimagine Crowdus was consider, even the new signage for that was needed for a plaza.

The Color Canopy is a kinetic sculpture design for Crowdus Street

The Color Canopy was a kinetic art installation that I co-created with Andrew Barnes, Ryan Roettker, and Donny Zellefrow. It was installed as part of the artwork on Crowdus Street, and invisioned to be a “roof” to the plaza. The piece was parametrically designed and built with simple construction flagging tape.
